Thanks for visiting!
I’m Aubra Bulin, adjunct professor, emerging scholar, and budding consultant in faculty professional development and online education.
If people are really individuals, then why do we teach them like they aren’t?
My main teaching experiences have been with English language learners and Freshman students in higher education. Both groups require me to be creative and engaging in the classroom to create a productive environment. I also try to implement technology to support and facilitate their learning outside our classroom.
Another area of interest for me is mentoring. I’ve been actively mentoring students for the past 3 years and I even began conducting research related to mentoring for papers and presentations at the University of New Mexico Mentoring Institute.
As you can tell, I love people, so it was natural that my interest in teaching and learning expanded to include adult learners and faculty members. My dissertation topic combines faculty development and online learning in a new way. The project involves the assessment of faculty learning styles to facilitate an online course that is customized to those learning preferences. You can go to the Current Research page to learn more or participate in the study.
My interest in these areas really developed from my philosophy of education and a question I continue to ask myself. If people are really individuals, then why do we teach them like they aren’t? I’m motivated by the goal to find effective ways to make individualized instruction scalable for educators. In the coming months I will complete my dissertation to achieve a goal I’ve long awaited. But what then? I’ve just begun my research, teaching, and consulting journey; I hope you’ll join me!
